Leighton Bingham is a 36 – year old digital marketer & agency owner. Leighton Bingham was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. He now resides in Harrisburg, Pennslyvania, after almost 20 years in the US Army. Today This is also where Leighton gets to pursue his passion and help other businesses achieve their financial goals as well. As a Columbia Southern Graduate that has become widely known as an mentor of his industry and someone entrepreneurs in the digital marketing sector can look up too. He has always wanted to be a role model and someone who could offer great value to people. Someone they could count on and help make their lives less hectic and more productive. Luckily that natural desire has paid off and continues to come to fruition.

Leighton got his start in the digital marketing space around 2010, helping businesses design and launch websites. Seven years later, he would soon discover marketing and finally get on the path of creating his first agency. About a year then, Megalodon’s marketing ads popped up on his scree by founder Jeremy Haynes after taking advantage of one of his courses, also a course from Traffic and Funnels founder Taylor Welsch.

The reason why he created his agency was to help businesses avoid failure, plain and simple. His parents owned a company that did electrical work, and unfortunately, after years of hard work and dedication, that business wasn’t flourishing. This set back took a significant toll on his family, and he never wanted that to happen to anyone else again. That is the kind of motivation that inspired him to become successful by helping people, and by providing marketing services: more leads, equal more sales. If a business is successful, then their lives will be successful as well.

Where did the idea for your company come from?

It started when I started running Facebook ads for one of my CrossFit Gyms 13 Stripes CrossFit in Harrisburg, PA.

Then after purchasing the DMM course from Jeremy Haynes, things started to take off. Without these two things, I would not have been able to do what I do now. I am grateful for them and their willingness to share their knowledge for everyone who wants to take action, to utilize.

What does your typical day look like, and how do you make it productive?

A typical day starts with my morning routine, taking a cold shower, meditation, planning, and reading a book or the news. My afternoons are spent on managing, networking, and improving my business and my client’s businesses. Seeking improvement for your business should never cease. I also like to spend an hour learning observing and providing feedback on Facebook groups that I have joined. I usually stop working by about 7 pm or later, depending on the task that has been completed. By this time, I’m generally starting to eat dinner, settling down, and preparing for the next day.

How do you bring ideas to life?

It is all about just doing it! Trial and error will get you closer to bringing your ideas to life. Brushing it off will only prolong it, so you must show up and do the work.

What’s one trend that excites you?

One trend that excites me would be Influencer marketing. I found mind-blowing that a big company like Nike can contact anyone and work one-on-one with them. People today love to see average individuals becoming successful and working with their favorite companies.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?

Having a morning routine will do wonders for all entrepreneurs and just about anyone else. Identifying what must be done tomorrow and be able to crush your mornings will give you the motivational boost and energy needed to push through the week. Don’t take morning routines for granted.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I desperately wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to stop slacking. Learning about marketing at the beginning of my adulthood would have enabled me been ten steps ahead of where I am now. I would also probably be the youngest marketing agency owner in the world and a very successful one at that.

So, my advice to my younger self would be to put the video games down and start learning. Read more books and watch more videos that can inspire and teach.

Tell us something real that almost nobody agrees with you on.

Marketing is the most important thing to do within a business. Without it, there is no business. Many people spend all their time focusing on the product or trying to do something that their peers will perceive as cool. Awareness and the ability to generate and capture into paying customers is the core of any business.

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Be kind and legitimately care about everyone. Never be rude or quick to judge someone. You never know when that person could end up being your next employee, friend, or even your client!

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

Networking is critical. It would help if you always were getting out of your comfort zone and try to learn new things, to improve your mind grow. You never know what someone else knows, until you network with them.

What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?

Clients deny one of the constant failures I see. That “No thanks” can be crushing for anyone. I overcame rejection by changing my mentality. If a prospect rejects you, say, “Oh well.” They are missing out on the opportunity to grow their business and gain incredible growth. The candidate is stuck on short-term growth and might be scared to pay because they are not thinking long term. You have to make sure that they understand the value of sacrificing now to have a better future.

What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

When you create a Facebook ad, be sure not to pick conversion ads instantly. Start with promoting your brand/business/product — warm people up before telling them to buy your stuff.

Would you buy something from me if I were to run up to you and say, “Hey, buy this!” No right? You want a solid reason, an introduction, and some form of conversation before you tell them to buy something. Doing this will allow you to narrow your audience, be more productive, and, most importantly, make your Facebook ads cheaper.

What is the best $100 you recently spent? What and Why?

The best $100 I have ever spent was on promoting my business through Facebook and Instagram. Facebook Might have taken a big hit from the data privacy scandal, but people are still on their social platforms. Everyone’s attention is on social media and their phones. Spending money on ads to grow my business is always one of the best ways to spend money.

What is one piece of software or a web service that helps you be productive? How do you use it?

One Piece of software that helps me be productive or better yet stay productive is Google Calendar and all of their reminders. I can add reminders, images, create multiple tabs, and even go into dark-mode when so my eyes don’t burn from a white screen.

I would highly recommend it. It’s FREE!

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

I can’t just recommend one because picking only one is very hard to decide on! The first book I would like to recommend is Atomic Habits by James Clear. This book made an impact on my personal growth and helping me figure out how to stick to good habits and get rid of bad ones. It takes time though they don’t come overnight.

What is your favorite quote?

“Implementing Extreme Ownership requires checking your ego and operating with a high degree of humility. Admitting mistakes, taking ownership, and developing a plan to overcome challenges are integral to any successful team.” – Jocko Willink
